With 36 points from rookie Anthony Edwards, the Minnesota Timberwolves took the lead in their turn against the Memphis Grizzlies, winning 130-117 on Saturday afternoon.

Edwards surpassed Ja Morand, who had 32 points and eight assists in the defeat. Morand had some spectacular games, including a pass between his legs and some acrobatic shots to the basket.

Carl-Anthony Towns also played a strong game with 29 points and 13 rebounds. Malik Beasley contributed 23 points, while D’Angelo Russell was reduced to 10 points.

The Timberwolves, who defeated the Clippers to secure the 7thand ranking in the East, won the first game of a series for the first time since 2004.

The 2nd race will take place on Tuesday night in Memphis.

For the Grizzlies, Morand was backed by Canadian Dillon Brooks, who scored 24 points, and Brandon Clark, who scored twice with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Memphis equaled a team record by winning 56 regular season games and earning the highest ranking in team history. The Grizzlies ran out of FedExForum, but found it difficult to continue after a week off and were only twice ahead of two in a row, the last time in the middle of the second quarter.

In this game between the best attack in the NBA and two of the youngest teams in the league this season, the Timberwolves set a first-half score and a game record.

The Timberwolves started 9-2, before leading 41-33 after just 12 minutes. He is the most productive attacking general in the history of the NBA playoffs.

Minnesota led 65-62 at halftime, then beat Memphis 32-30 in the third quarter and led 97-92 in the fourth quarter.

The Jazz took advantage of the absence of Luka Doncic

He ousted Luka Doncic with a calf injury, the Dallas Mavericks were defeated 99-93 by Donovan Mitchell and the Utah Jazz on Saturday as the first round in the West began.

Mitchell was eliminated in the first half, but responded with 19 points in the third quarter. Utah finished the quarter with 73-65.

Dallas came close to 92-91, before a three-pointer by Roy O’Neill. He then scored his first points in the match, after four missed shots. The Jazz remained under control afterwards.

The second match will be presented on Monday afternoon.

Bojan Bogdanovic helped Mitchell with 26 points, while Rudy Gombert grabbed 17 rebounds and made three blocks.

For the Mavericks, Jalen Brunson had 24 points, two more than Spencer Dinwiddie.

Doncic suffered a left leg injury on April 10 against the Spurs in the last game of the Mavericks’ regular season.

His case will be evaluated on a daily basis, said coach Jason Kidd.

The 23-year-old Slovene finished third in the NBA with an average of 28.4 points per game this season.

Doncic was the only player in the league to average at least 28 points, eight rebounds and eight assists this season.
