Nikola Jokic: NBA back-to-back MVP in jeopardy with back-to-back broom

From MVP on the broom to the Suns and second MVP (coming) to a new potential broom from the Warriors, Nikola Jokic recognizes the Nuggets aren’t ready to make a championship just yet.

He won the 2020/21 regular-season MVP, he will win it again this year, with Joel Ebid remaining in second place and Giannis Antetokunbo being capped in third place. However, Nikola Jokic is still a long way from being considered a team leader who can win a championship. And because he is missing two fives (Jamal Marie – Michael Porter), but also because the pellets still need more depth to become competitors.

The Serbian center, who averaged 27.1 points, 13.8 rebounds, 7.9 assists, 1.5 steals and 1 block every 33.5 minutes in 74 regular-season games, sees the Warriors poised for the first round of the playoffs to contest against the Nuggets, and so much when he’s posting good numbers (29.3 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists, 2.3 steals, 1 block every 33.7 minutes) then those around him aren’t in the Able enough in number and quality to push the Denver team deep into the playoffs.

Jokic knows he’ll get a back-to-back MVP, but he knows he can also write back-to-back bans with a sweep. Last year, the Nuggets defeated the Blazers 4-2 in the first round of the Western Playoffs and then were wiped out by eventual finalists Suns with losses of 17, 25, 14 and 7 points. This year, the Denver team has lost to the Warriors by 16, 20 and 5 points, with Jokic’s 7-straight loss tally and poised to make negative history.
