Celtics’ 155 vs. Pacers is 2nd all-time and best in 64 years
The Celtics’ 155-104 victory over the Pacers made history as Boston’s 155 points marked the second most productive night ever for the Celtics and the second best since 1959. Read about the incredible game that took place 64 years ago.
The Celtics defeated the Pacers 155-104 on a dream night, finishing the game with 34/60 two-pointers, 20/35 three-pointers and 27/28 shooting, along with 27 assists. In doing so, they succeeded – even from a distance – in approaching the best performance in the team’s history, which dates back to the 1958/59 season!
It was on February 27, 1959, when the Celtics defeated the Minneapolis Lakers (now Los Angeles Lakers) 173-139, setting a team record that still stands today! These Celtics had only won one championship at this point, as they won their second championship in the 1958-59 season and followed with another seven (!) in a row until 1966. And in this game they should make history.
What’s even more impressive is that the Celtics were without their best player in this game, the great Bill Russell, who did not play. But they had Tommy Heinson (43 points, 11 rebounds), Bom Cousy (31 points – 28 assists!) and Bill Sharman (29 points).
As a reminder: The Celtics’ top scorers against the Pacers were Jayson Tatum (30 points, 12 rebounds) and Derrick White (18 points).
