Cavaliers and Rubio have started discussions: the Spaniard is not returning to Cleveland

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Ricky Rubio are discussing ending their partnership.

33-year-old Ricky Rubio has not been on the field for several months. He has not announced his permanent retirement from basketball but said he needs time to regain his mental health, with the Cavaliers beginning discussions with his representatives about both sides’ next steps.

As the Athletic reports, they need a roster spot in Cleveland, and since Rubio has no intention of returning to Ohio and the NBA even though his contract ends in the summer of 2025, they want to open the offer of the Spanish guard. Rickey posted 10.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, 7.4 assists and 1.8 steals per 29.6 minutes in 698 regular-season games with Minnesota, Utah, Phoenix and Cleveland.

The loss of Darius Garland (broken jaw) is significant, and Cleveland is trying to find a player to serve as a “patch” until its starting point guard returns to action. If Rubio is released, he will be free to pursue his career wherever he wants, assuming, of course, that he is interested in returning to the court. Rumors about a reunion with Badalona or Barcelona have not stopped for many months.
