NBA, Philadelphia Sixers: No rush for Ben Simmons with attention for James Harden
Ben Simmons is still a liability for the Philadelphia Sixers, but they’re in no rush to hand him off before the close. The reason; James Harden is the big target of the offseason.
With two and a half weeks to go before the NBA close, organizations have already begun to work more intensively on the exchanges and anticipate significant benefits ahead of the season’s closing straight.
Ben Simmons is, if nothing else, one of the top names out there, but the Philadelphia Sixers (and despite the inconveniences they’ve endured this year) don’t seem in any rush to give him away in exchange. On the contrary, as Athletic points out, they appear willing to keep him dormant until the summer and then start any discussion with a prospect from scratch.
The reason is simple: they want to do whatever it takes to get James Harden, who has a one-year contract with the Brooklyn Nets, with an option (instead of $47,366,760).
Since during the off-season all teams will be more willing to compromise and be available for more discussion/negotiation, in Philadelphia they think it’s better to…draw the story with Ben Simmons, (with) calculate the possibility of a signing until then. Commercial deal with the Brooklyn Nets.
