Porzingis missed, sending a signed jersey to a fan who lost 76,000 on the bet
Christaps Porzingis denied a fan a chance to win $76,000 in the bet and sent him an autographed jersey with a special message as compensation.
How can a losing layup in the first phase of the game lose a large amount of money in the bet? Too simple. Christaps Porzingis needed to make the first basket in the game between the Kings and the Mavericks to earn American $76,000.
This particular fan had bet that four players would shoot the first basket in certain games. Porzingis was one of them. He caught the three and left the Latvian with him to make $76,000. The Mavericks player did have the first shot, but things didn’t go the way he would have liked.
The Dallas team’s star had an opportunity to succeed, but he missed the layup and robbed that particular fan of an opportunity to… go to the box office and be 76,000 richer. To atone, Porzingis sent each fan a signed jersey with the inscription:
“Joe, I’m sorry I lost the layup and it cost you 76,000.”
