CJ McCollum scored 19 points and added 10 rebounds as the Portland Trail Blazers beat the Toronto Raptors 114-105 on Sunday night.
Anfernee Simmons and Nassir Little each scored 19 points for Portland, who were never far behind.
Pascal Shiakam led the Raptors with 28 points and Fred VanVlit had 19.
After 34 points in the first half, Toronto came close to returning, closing the gap to 105-111 with 1:24 playing.
The Trail Blazers started the match with a 25-4 lead in the first ten minutes. The difference of 21 points widened to 34 points at the end of the second quarter.
The biggest comeback in the history of the Raptors was 30 points in a 110-107 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on December 22, 2019.
But Simmons immediately blocked VanVleet’s three-pointer.
Gary Trent Jr. and Chris Boucher scored a total of 13 and 11 points, respectively.
The Raptors returned to the Scotiabank Arena after a five-game road trip. They took 2-3 on the trip, including a 109-105 victory over the Washington Wizards on Friday.
The Raptors coach admitted that his team showed “very little energy” in this game that is played at home, but behind closed doors.
Toronto made almost as many overturns (10) as they made baskets (11) in the first half of the match.
“We can not just blame the lack of fans for our poor performance,” Nurse insisted.
