Shocked Wall: “I thought about killing myself, I was in a dark place”
John Wall has revealed he has been going through an extremely difficult time due to the injuries and death of his mother and grandmother which led to suicidal thoughts, in news that shocked the world.
In 2022, NBA players — and athletes in general — are more open to showing they’ve been through tough times. John Wall was the last to do so and made shocking revelations.
The Clippers guard gave an interview and at one point stated that he had suicidal thoughts a few years ago as a result of his serious injuries (torn Achilles tendon in 2019) and the deaths of his mother (2019) and grandmother (2020).
“I’ve been in a dark place, the darkest I’ve ever been” Wall initially stated, only to shock with his revelation: “At some point I thought about killing myself. After I tore my Achilles tendon, my mother was ill and eventually died, then my grandmother died a year later. All this in the midst of Corona.
I used to go to chemotherapy (ss his mother) and sat there. I saw my mother take her last breath. I wore the same clothes three days in a row and just sat on the couch and grieved.”
In conclusion, however, Wall seemed to have found his zest for life again: “I found a therapist. Everyone says that they don’t need help and that they can overcome their problems. But you have to be honest with yourself and find what is best for you. And I did. When I’m over it, I can overcome anything. I don’t think many people can take what I’ve been through.”
