MILAN — Organizers of next year’s Giro d’Italia unveiled six more stages of the prestigious cycling race on Tuesday.

Breaking with tradition, RCS Sport has decided to present new details of the route of the next Giro. The rough terrain stages were announced on Tuesday, the day after the presentation of seven stages favoring sprinters. The mountain stages will be announced on Wednesday.

RCS Sport did not want to specify the dates of these stages before the full unveiling of the Giro d’Italia on Thursday, when the final will be revealed.

The rugged second stage of the Giro will take cyclists to Naples for the first time since the first stage of the prestigious Italian cycling event in 2013.

In addition, participants will cross the finish line of other stages in Genoa and Turin.

The Tour of Italy will also make a brief foray into Slovenia, for the last stage on uneven ground.

The Giro will get underway with the presentation of three stages in Hungary, and will run from May 6 to 29, 2022.
