The paths of Quebecers Lauriane Genest and Hugo Barrette stopped in the first qualifying races in both the keirin and the sprint, Saturday, at the Champions League in Panevézys, Lithuania
Genest was first eliminated by Frenchwoman Mathilde Gros in the sprint event. As was the case in the previous three rounds of the Champions League, Germany’s Emma Hinze was crowned sprint champion.

Then, despite a good push in the keirin, the Lévisienne took fifth place in her qualifying wave, which was led by the German Lea Friedrich.
For his part, Hugo Barrette did everything in his power to make things happen during his qualifying races. He was eliminated at the very last second in the keirin, before being shown the way out in the sprint by Dutchman Harrie Lavreysen.
In the overall standings, Genest took ninth place with 52 points, while Barrette finished 10th with 41 points. Building on his performance in the sprint, Lavreysen is the men’s champion in the Champions League sprint events with 147 points.
