PARIS – The Green Mountain, the main difficulty of the Oman Cycling Tour, crowned the Czech Jan Hirt (Intermarché) who won the 5th and penultimate stage of the event on Monday.
Hirt isolated himself in the last two kilometers of this very steep climb (5.7 km at 10.5%) to precede the Frenchmen Kévin Vauquelin and Elie Gesbert, both from the Arkéa- Samsic.
At 31, Hirt, who had not won since his success in the 2016 Tour of Austria, dislodged the Italian Fausto Masnada from first place in the general classification, eleventh in the stage at almost two minutes.
Tuesday, the 6th and last stage, favorable to sprinters, ends on the Corniche de Matrah after 135.5 kilometers.
