PARIS – Slovenian Tadej Pogacar scored a double blow on Wednesday at the Tour of the United Arab Emirates, winning the 4th stage and taking the lead in the general classification at the end of the 181 kilometer course which ended at the top of Jebel Jais, the highest point in the Emirates. .
Pogacar sprinted ahead of Briton Adam Yates and Russian Aleksandr Vlasov after a long 20-kilometer climb with a constant 5% gradient, steepening to 7% just in the last two kilometers.
The Slovenian, winner of the Tour of the United Arab Emirates last year and double title holder of the Tour de France, took the opportunity to take the lead in the general classification with two seconds ahead of the Italian Filippo Ganna and 13 over Aleksandr Vlasov.
On Thursday, the 5th stage will cover 182 kilometers between the Ras al Khaimah corniche and Al Marjan Island, with a scheduled finish for the sprinters. The Tour of the United Arab Emirates ends on Saturday.
