PARIS, France – Canadian Michael Woods (Israel PT) proved to be the strongest at the Mirador do Ezaro, the end of the second stage of the Grand Camino (northwestern Spain).

Woods attacked 900 meters from the finish judged to be at the top of a very steep climb (1.78 km at 14.7%) to edge veteran Spanish Alejandro Valverde by 16 seconds.

“I had done this climb in the Vuelta 2020”, recalled the Canadian (35) referring to the time trial of the Tour of Spain won by the Slovenian Primoz Roglic.

In the general classification, Woods is now ahead of Valverde by 17 seconds before the 3rd stage which connects Maceda to Luintra (148 km).

The Gran Camino, a new four-day event organized in Galicia, concludes on Sunday with an individual time trial of 16 kilometers.

Ranking of the 2nd stage:

1. Michael Woods (CAN/Israel PT), the 177 km in 4 h 35:52.

2. Alejandro Valverde (ESP / MOV) at 16.

3. Rubén Fernandez (ESP/COF) 37.

4. Ivan Sosa (COL/MOV) 37.

5. Jakob Fuglsang (DEN/ISR) 39.
