AUBAGNE, France – The young Frenchman Mathieu Burgaudeau (TotalEnergies) won Friday the 6th stage of Paris-Nice, the longest of the event with 213.6 kilometers between Courthézon (Vaucluse) and Aubagne (Bouches-du-Rhône).

Burgaudeau, who went on the attack 8 kilometers from the finish, resisted in extremis the return of the peloton settled by the Dane Mads Pedersen in front of the Belgian Wout van Aert.

The Slovenian Primoz Roglic (Jumbo) retained the yellow leader’s jersey on the eve of the only arrival at the top.

The Swiss Johan Jacobs and the French Victor Koretzky, survivors of a breakaway of six runners (with Madouas in particular), were joined 27 kilometers from the finish, after the summit of the Col de l’Espigoulier.

Burgaudeau, a 23-year-old Vendéen who turned professional in 2019, took the first success of his WorldTour career.

Saturday, the 7th stage visits the hinterland of the Riviera over 155.2 kilometers, from Nice to the Col de Turini. The route ends with a climb of nearly 15 kilometers at 7.3% where the Colombian climbers had a field day during the previous arrival in 2019 (victory for Daniel Martinez).
