Quebecer Guillaume Boivin (Israel – Premier Tech) was forced to retire with around 50 kilometers to go.

Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz (INEOS – Grenadiers) and Colombian Sergio Higuita (BORA – hansgrohe) had a good day on Saturday, during the penultimate stage of the Tour of Catalonia. The two cyclists escaped with more than 110 kilometers to go and finally fought a battle until the last second. It was finally Carapaz who won in the sprint.

Forty competitors crossed the finish line 48 seconds behind the winner. Of the lot, the Australian Kaden Groves (BikeExchange – Jayco) then imposed himself to take third place of the day.

For his part, Quebecer Guillaume Boivin (Israel – Premier Tech) was forced to retire with about 50 kilometers to go. Note that he had finished fourth the day before.

Ottawa’s Michael Woods, Boivin’s teammate, did not start the sixth stage. He hadn’t felt at the top of his game since the beginning of the week and Israel – Premier Tech made the decision to give him a rest for the upcoming races.

South African Daryl Impey had the best result of the day at Israel – Premier Tech, finishing 23and rank.

Things have changed in the general classification. With his second place on Saturday, Sergio Higuita took the lead in the provisional standings 16 seconds ahead of his closest pursuer Richard Carapaz. First before the sixth stage, the Portuguese Joao Almeida (UAE Emirates) slipped to third place (+52 seconds).

The seventh and final stage of the Tour of Catalonia will be presented on Sunday in the streets of Barcelona.
