PARIS – The Colombian champion Sergio Higuita (Bora) won the Tour of Catalonia, Sunday in Barcelona, after the 7th stage won by the Italian Andrea Bagioli (Quick-Step).

Higuita maintained his advantage of 16 seconds over Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz, the Olympic champion with whom he reversed the situation on Saturday after a long breakaway of some 120 kilometers.

In the last stage ending with 6 laps of a circuit laid out on the hill of Montjuic, Bagioli sprinted the group of favorites ahead of the Hungarian Attila Valter.

Higuita (24) succeeded Briton Adam Yates on the charts. He won his first WorldTour stage race, his second success of the season after a stage of the Tour of Algarve in February in Portugal.

The young Colombian asserted himself in his first season at the highest level by taking second place in the Tour of California (behind Tadej Pogacar) before winning a stage of the Vuelta 2019.
