Olivia Baril (Valcar – Travel & Service) shone during the last stage of the Elsy Jacobs Festival by finishing fifth, 8 seconds behind the American Veronica Ewers (EF Education-TIBCO-SVB), winner of the stage.

“It went really well on my side, it was a combination of circumstances that I find myself alone in my team at the front like that. I’m very happy with my form throughout the weekend, I took a lot of rest last week. I felt a little tired during the race, but I had a second wind with about thirty kilometers to go,” said Olivia Baril, in an interview with Sportcom.

Beyond her individual performance, Baril would have liked to help her Italian teammate Silvia Persico to remain at the top of the general classification, she who finished in 18and up (+25 seconds). Persico was therefore unable to retain first place overall, being overtaken by the Italian Marta Bastianelli (UAE ADQ) and by Ewers.

“The team did very well, but there was a crash on the last climb and Silvia was stuck behind. I managed to stay in the first group, but I would have liked to go back to help my teammates back up. The UAE ADQ girls were solid forward to give the victory to Marta Bastianelli,” explained the cyclist from Rouyn-Noranda.

If Veronica Ewers’ victory was difficult for Baril to accept, it was quite the opposite for Magdeleine Vallières-Mill (EF Education-TIBCO-SVB) who was delighted to see her teammate triumph on the roads of Garnich, in Luxemburg.

“We are so happy with Veronica’s victory. Our plan worked perfectly, it’s our first stage win in Europe, so it’s a great day for us. We thought for a while that Veronica might be at the top of the general classification, it came very close, ”said the Quebecer who finished 42and (+2 minutes 12 seconds).

For her part, Simone Boilard (St Michel – Auber93 WE) once again obtained the best result of her training by ranking 33and of the day (+54 seconds), not without difficulty. Boilard suffered a crash about 7 kilometers from the finish when she was in the hunt to improve her position in the general classification.

“It ended very badly today (Sunday). I was in a good position for the white jersey (best youngster), but I crashed. An opponent fell in front of me and I couldn’t avoid the fall too. More fear than harm, but I am very disappointed,” Boilard explained.

“It’s a shame because the feelings were good and I could have obtained a good classification. I was already thinking about my sprint, my positioning in the group and a few seconds later I was on the ground and my race was over, it’s super disappointing. »

In the general classification, Olivia Baril climbed seven places after the last stage to settle in seventh place. As for her, Simone Boilard slipped a few places to conclude the weekend at 22and rung. Magdeleine Vallières-Mill finishes 40and.
