Canadian Alex Cataford on the starting line
Canadian Alex Cataford will take part in the Giro d’Italia which gets under way on Friday, the Israel-Premier Tech team announced on its official Twitter account on Monday morning.
Cataford, who is from Ottawa, will participate in the “Giro” for the second time in his career, and this will be his third appearance in a major cycling event in his career.
He had been forced to retire during the 12and stage of the Tour of Italy in 2020, and had chosen to withdraw at the dawn of the third stage of the Tour of Spain last year.
Most recently, Cataford finished at 95and rank in the general classification of the Tour de Romandie, a competition which ended last Sunday and in which the Canadian Michael Woods (Israel-Premier Tech) also took part.
The 28-year-old cyclist also participated in the Tour of the Basque Country earlier this spring, as did Woods and Quebecer Hugo Houle.
