VILLARS/OLLON, Switzerland — Russian Aleksandr Vlasov won the Tour de Romandie on Sunday after setting the fastest time in the final stage, an individual time trial in the mountains of Switzerland.

This is a first triumph on the International Cycling Union World Circuit for the 26-year-old Russian.

Vlasov was granted permission to compete in international races during Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine because he competed for a German-registered team.

Sunday, on the 15.8 km long route, Vlasov clocked 33 minutes 40 seconds, 31 seconds better than the German Simon Geschke. The Swiss Gino Mäder finished third in the stage, 36 seconds behind the winner.

Overall, Vlasov completed the six days of competition with an overall time of 18:00:59. He finished 50 seconds ahead of Mäder, and 55 seconds ahead of Geschke.

After taking 31st place in the final stage in 36:25, Canadian Michael Woods slipped from 11th to 17th position overall, three minutes 14 seconds behind Vlasov.
