(Morzine) The double French world champion Julian Alaphilippe, who was not selected for the Tour de France by his team, will resume competition at the Tour de Wallonie (July 23 to 27) before participating in the Vuelta, a- we learned Monday from his Quick-Step training.
Alaphilippe, who left for an altitude course with a view to his recovery, will also run the Clasica San Sebastian at the end of July, a race he won in 2018. He will then compete in the Tour de l’Ain (August 9 to 11) then will start the Vuelta, fixed in Utrecht (Netherlands) on August 19th.
His team announced the world champion’s program during the Tour’s rest day in Haute-Savoie.
Alaphilippe, 30, was left out by his team for the Tour de France, of which he has been one of the great leaders in recent years.
Seriously injured in a fall during Liège-Bastogne-Liège on April 24 (hemopneumothorax, fractured shoulder blade, two broken ribs), he did not use until June 26 for the French road championship, which he took the 13e place after having worked for the future winner, his teammate Florian Sénéchal.
Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl will also change its name next year and will be called Soudal Quick-Step for the next five years.
