The cyclists of France completed a dream week at the 52nd Tour de l’Abitibi on Sunday, on the occasion of the 7th and final stage won by Canadian Gavin Hadfield.
This last round of the Tour, with a length of 108 km, was contested on the urban circuit of Amos.
Hadfield won ahead of his compatriot Sasha Renaud-Tremblay, both with a time of 2:30:22, and American Vaughn Veenendaal, two seconds behind the Canadian duo in the breakaway.
Holders of the first three places in the general classification after the first six days, Lucas Mainguenaud, Mathieu Dupé and Mathéo Barusseau completed their tour de force by doing what was necessary to maintain their respective positions.
Thanks to his stage victory, Hadfield finished 4th overall.
Mainguenaud had stolen the brown jersey from his teammate Dupé following the sixth round.
The French thus improved their lot in the UCI Junior Nations Cup, as they beat Belgium with their Abitibi result.
In total, the French formation has won fifteen top-10 over the events since Monday.
In all, more than twenty teams from around the world came together for these seven stages of competition, for a total of around 700 kilometres.
Out of a total of nine Junior Nations Cup events, the Tour de l’Abitibi is the only one to be contested in America.
