Paris Saint-Germain came from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Stade Rennais on Sunday, with substitute Ferran Torres scoring twice in the closing stages on the opening weekend of the 2026-27 Ligue 1 season.
Rennes led 2-0 at half-time at the Roazhon Park thanks to goals from Sebastian Szymański and Lepaul, before Luis Enrique's changes turned the match around after the break.
Szymański and Lepaul put Rennes in control
Rennes broke quickly in the 9th minute. A lay-off from Lepaul and a delayed run from Tommasson set up a pass back for Szymański, the Polish midfielder who joined Rennes from Fenerbahçe, and he fired the ball into the top corner past Paris goalkeeper Matvey Safonov.
Rennes doubled their lead in the 38th minute with their first genuine counter-attack of the match. A long ball forward found Tamari, who produced a surprise backheel to release his full-back down the flank. The resulting cross was met by Lepaul, who placed his finish precisely to make it 2-0.
Luis Enrique overhauls his attack at half-time
Paris head coach Luis Enrique made sweeping changes for the second half, taking off Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and sending on Ferran Torres and Godts, a big-money signing from Ajax. Désiré Doué, formerly of Rennes's academy, initially played through the middle, with the plan for him to alternate positions with Godts.
The reshuffle did not pay off immediately. PSG had looked more coherent in the first half, and after the changes Doué drifted around the pitch without finding space, while Torres struggled to get involved on the right and Godts on the left.
Samba's saves keep Rennes ahead
By the 52nd minute, PSG's task looked daunting: the club had not won any of their previous 28 matches in which they had trailed 2-0, with only five draws in that run.
Two minutes later, Rennes goalkeeper Brice Samba produced a double save, first getting down to a long-range shot before reacting to keep out a follow-up effort from Warren Zaïre-Emery.
Luis Enrique responded with a second wave of substitutions in the 57th minute, sending on Akliouche and Fabian Ruiz in place of João Neves and Zaïre-Emery. Rennes continued to cause problems, with a full-back winning the ball and driving forward in the 67th minute, though he was unable to find the right pass or shot.
Ferran Torres levels the score
Torres pulled a goal back for Paris in the 70th minute, timing his run to the edge of offside as Samba could only deflect the ball into the net rather than keep it out. The goal was confirmed after a video review, and Rennes led 2-1.
Doué then went close to an equaliser in the 76th minute, cutting inside after strong work down the flank from Achraf Hakimi before curling his shot just over the bar. Three minutes later, Akliouche, a new PSG signing, won the ball back but chose an overly elaborate pass to Torres instead of shooting himself, with Rennes still hanging on at 2-1.
Paris finally drew level in the 83rd minute. Fabian Ruiz, on from the bench, delivered a cross that Torres met to complete his brace and make it 2-2.
Luis Campos on PSG's transfer business
Speaking to the broadcaster during the match, PSG football advisor Luis Campos said it was important to defend the club and the institution. Asked about Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye, he said fans would have to wait and see what happened, adding that this kind of speculation came up every year. He pointed to goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma's departure to Manchester City on 2 September the previous year as an example of how late deals could still be done. He added that the transfer window remained open and that Paris would still look to bring in players if a good opportunity arose.
Late chances but no winner
Rennes almost restored their lead in the 86th minute when Blas headed goalward and forced a save, with defender Willian Pacho making a goal-line clearance for Paris. Rennes then had to survive five minutes of heavy PSG pressure without their defence breaking.
Lepaul had one final chance to win it for Rennes on a stoppage-time counter-attack in the 92nd minute, but his effort, usually one of the hardest shots in the squad, lacked its usual power. The match ended 2-2.
The draw leaves both sides level on one point after the opening round of fixtures, with Rennes eighth and Paris Saint-Germain seventh in the Ligue 1 table.
