Miesha Tate has spent her entire career at 135 pounds, but now believes her future lies at 125, a weight she finds more to her advantage.
She is scheduled to face Lauren Murphy in this category in May.
“When I came to the UFC it was all 135s, and when the 125s division was born, I was focused on my desire to win the title at 135s and the rivalry with Ronda Rousey,” Tate told The MMA Hour.
Now she is already thinking long-term and sees herself taking on champion Valentina Shevchenko.
“I always have a long term goal and I don’t think that’s a bad thing. I did not neglect Ketlen Vieira at all because of that, ”assured Tate, however, who lost against the latter in November for her return to the octagon after five years of absence. It was in the roosters.
Vettori or nothing for Paulo Costa
There is only one fight left on Paulo Costa’s current contract, and the only thing that interests him before signing a new contract is to have his revenge on Marvin Vettori.
“I told Dana White (UFC president), it’s the only fight I’m interested in. There is no one else. Unless it’s for the title, but I’m not stupid. I’m not there. I want to face it. He’s the only real candidate I’m interested in. If he’s not next, I’m not even interested in fighting,” Costa told Ag.Fight.
Costa lost to Vettori in his last outing by unanimous decision.
Kattar stands ready
Calvin Kattar became a serious contender with his win over Giga Chikadze at featherweight in January.
He is hoping for a call-up to be the back-up for the April 9 bout between Alexander Volkanovski and Chan Sung Jung at UFC 273.
“It’s not done yet, but they’ll let me know, so I’m ready,” Kattar said during a podcast with Michael Bisping.
Gustafsson v. Rothwell in the plans
UFC reportedly plans to stage Alexander Gustafsson and Ben Rothwell heavyweight fight on May 21, reports MMA Fighting.
A former light heavyweight, Gustafsson retired in 2019 and returned to competition in 2020 in this new division. He lost in the first round to Fabricio Werdum on his return, then his second fight was canceled due to injury.
Rothwell lost his last fight against Marcos Rogerio de Lima in October.
