In his first appearance in the arena since 2019, Keith Thurman dominated Mario Barrios on Saturday night in Las Vegas, earning a unanimous decision victory.
Despite the fact that he hadn’t fought in over 1,000 days, Thurman (30-1, 22 KOs) benefited from judges’ cards showing his great superiority, namely 117-111, 118-110 and 118-110.
After triumphs over Shawn Porter and Danny Garcia in 2016 and 2017, Thurman was seen as one of the best at welterweight.
He had even been listed ninth in ESPN’s ranking of the best pugilists, pound for pound.
The Florida fighter, however, was slowed by injuries afterwards.
Just two months after his victory over Garcia in May 2017, he had to undergo surgery on his right elbow. Eventually, he also injured his left hand in training.
Injuries had eventually forced him to give up his WBC title which he had stolen from Garcia.
