Usik: “I really missed and swam at the end of the ninth round with Joshua”
WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight title holder Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) talked about the toughest moments in the second fight against Anthony Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs).
“Joshua was physically ready, but I think he emphasized one heavy punch here. At the end of the ninth round, he had good combinations, I missed that and I swam. But he was better prepared for this fight.
Joshua has improved a little physically. Gathered, hands gathered, less reaction to deceptive actions. Joshua was better prepared.
I can’t tell what happened in the eighth and ninth rounds – one blow or sustained pressure. Eighth got some rest, and I missed a beat at the end of the ninth, followed by this long series. He exaggerated, walked away, prayed – that’s all, ”said Usyk.
Oleksandr Usyk defeated Anthony Joshua by split decision on August 20 and retained the belts.
