Joyce scribbled on Parker. Next – Usyk?
Joe Joyce (15-0, 14 KOs) knocked out Joseph Parker (30-3, 21 KOs) in the eleventh round of the fight. The insane lateral, the terrifying fall, and the New Zealander’s physical form at the end of the fight are the three main indicators of the encounter.
Joseph Joyce is now the official WBO contender, whose belt belongs to Oleksandr Usyk. How realistic was it that they would still meet, and how was the meeting against Joseph Parker?
Joyce’s head freed him and gave him victory. Parker could have knocked out anyone else with such hits.
The fight between Joe Joyce and Joseph Parker is a test for both. Joyce has never faced opponents of this level. He has a very good track record, but also nobody with a name and so his best years weren’t five or seven years ago. Parker got it all over the place.
For Yusuf, this is a test and a test. Heavyweight opponent, tough boxer and the best of recent years. After losing to Joshua and White, Parker boxed exclusively on their home island and then visited England to beat veteran Derek Chisora. The victory over the Briton is wonderful, but not decisive, and the first turned out to be light, controversial and even very strange.
And their fight is a classic confrontation between a technician and an aggressive boxer. Big against a small athlete. Young versus old. In general, no matter how you look, the classics are everywhere. And so this fight looked like a delicious classic.
Parker started well. He punched, moved, punched again. Sometimes attempts to evade the opponent seemed like an escape, but in general, Joseph was definitely more accurate, and if he hit, then too many and almost all of them hit the target at once. The same cannot be said for Joyce, who hits anywhere, looks slow and follows her opponent very unsuccessfully. Until the third round.
It was all over, Parker from then on. He also tried to counter somehow, hitting something, but Joyce either felt the right distance or realized that he wasn’t falling from this opponent and didn’t even stumble, but rushed forward so that it was impossible to stop.
In the fifth or sixth round, the New Zealander looked bad. And not figuratively, but literally. Broken face, heavy breathing and not being able to stop this car. In contrast, Joyce just hit harder and advanced longer and harder.
Joseph got so bad several times that he wanted to shout that it was impossible. You can’t just throw your head back and keep attacking like Joyce did. In the ninth round, Joe fell on his opponent’s uppercut. Delicious, right, right on the chin. Joyce didn’t even think about it, but nine out of ten opponents would drop instantly. At least in a demolition.
Further, it was more painful to look at Parker. Joyce attacked from all sides. Side-charged, flat. The opponent tried to move away from these attacks, to repel them. So what? It took even more, because the Briton never stopped.
This time, for the first time in his career, Joseph was knocked out. In the eleventh round, Joyce aimed sideways and shot, so Parker flew half off the ring, fell into the corner and barely got up. A clean knockout and horribly confused face of the New Zealander.
Joyce claims Usyk, but Alexander doesn’t want this fight. Understandable.
Joseph Joyce is now a contender for the WBO heavyweight title. Officially. He can even request a fight from Usyk. Sanctions, obligations and everything else. But Alexander said immediately after the victory over Joshua, “I don’t want to meet with the applicants.”
The Ukrainian is sure that he has time for three fights at the peak of his form. And if everything goes according to plan. And no Joyce for that matter. There’s Fury, even Canelo if he wants to. But Joyce is not like that. Fears?
Tough. Not even Usyk watching this fight. Just why would you do it? Gains skyrocketed with Joshua, the historical relationship is pretty real. Possible fight against Wilder – and this is the USA, again money and a big fight. Canelo is just money. Where is Joyce here? At the same time, it will not be certain, although, of course, Alexander has already defeated the British.
You don’t make much money with Joe. Get ready, be motivated to earn a lot less money. Also, withstand this pressure for twelve rounds – the Ukrainian will definitely not cut off the iron head. Less than anything but possible health problems.
The point now is that Frank Warren didn’t put a rim on the wheel with the WBO. Warren already has two rivals for Usyk – Joe Joyce and Daniel Dubois. The first is for the WBO, the second is for the WBA. So let’s have a rematch. Or they box with other superiors. Dubois is about to leave like Joyce.
At the same time, Usyk – Joyce is a strong confrontation, if you look at it from a purely sports point of view. I don’t want a 35-year-old Ukrainian to waste his time like that. Had very little.
