Boxing federations of Sweden and Finland are boycotting tournaments in which Russian and Belarusian athletes will participate
Swedish and Finnish boxers will not participate in tournaments with athletes from Russia and Belarus.
On Wednesday, the International Boxing Association (IBA) allowed Russian and Belarusian boxers to compete under the auspices of the organization.
I think the same as most sane people. That this is a scandal and completely unacceptable. We cannot compete in tournaments where Russians and Belarusians are allowed. And, as far as I understand, Spain will not (send boxers) either, most of the countries of Western Europe are against this (admission of Russians and Belarusians), said the head of the Swedish Boxing Association, Per-Axel Sjöholm, who is quoted by SVT.
A statement on the website of the Finnish Boxing Association states that Finnish boxers “will not participate in tournaments in which Russian and Belarusian athletes have the right to represent their country.”
At the end of February, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that international federations not allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in tournaments due to the conflict in Ukraine.
