WILDER: ‘I’d be very surprised if Usyk keeps his word’
Former American Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KOs) WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight title holder Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) not sure if his fight will take place.
“I think it will be very difficult for me to expect to fight the best heavyweights. I’ll be very surprised if Usyk keeps his word. I’m a man of my word, I keep my moral principles. They say if you don’t believe in something, you can be convinced of anything. I believe in something.
The last champ who promised to fight me went the other way after a crushing knockout in my performance. I’m talking about Joseph Parker. Let’s see what will happen. I’ll try to get Usyk to keep his word. We’ll call your team and see what happens. “If he’s true to his word, it’s going to be a great fight,” Wilder said.
Previously, Deontay knocked out Finland’s Robert Helenius (31-4, 19 KOs) in the first round.
