Wilder Explains Why He Lost Weight Before Helenius Fight
Former American Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KOs) talked about why he lost weight before his fight with Robert Helenius (31-4, 19 KOs) of Finland.
“A lot of people worry about my weight, what to bring, etc. was worried about. But back to the basics. I wanted to go to war at my lucky weight and that’s how it is. I wanted to be lighter. God gave me strength, but he did not give me dimensions. So I can fight fighters 20, 30, 40 or even 50 kilos heavier.
Something happens the moment you go beyond the regime God has placed on you. You need to go back to where you were. That’s what I did,” said Wilder.
Note that before the third fight with Fury, Deontay showed 107.9 kg on the scales. For the duel with Helenius it turned out much lighter – 97.3 kg.
