The Russian fighter showed everyone that he can defeat opponents not only through knockouts. This was definitely not expected of him!
All fans of mixed martial arts have long been accustomed to the bright early victories of the Russian fighter Peter Yan by knockout. It was due to the chic striking technique that the athlete reached the top of the lightest weight in the UFC.
But there is a duel in the career of our fighter, in which he dealt with an opponent due to an unusual wrestling technique for himself. The opponent, who lost consciousness, even had to be brought to life right in the ring.
“He can become a big star”
Petr Yan, even in the early stages of his career, had a stable reputation as a typical drummer who does not particularly use wrestling techniques during a fight. For his bright style, the fighter was quickly noticed and invited to the ACB league. The leadership predicted a great future for the fighter with a modest track record of the athlete and after only one victory in the quarterfinals of the Grand Prix of the promotion over the Brazilian Renato Velama.
– Peter Yan represents Omsk and the Siberian shock school, which is distinguished by a high level of work in the stand, but many see a weak side in wrestling. Peter showed himself very well in the quarterfinals, where he competed against the Brazilian Renato Velame, who has a black belt in jiu-jitsu. Jan did not allow himself to be transferred to the ground during the entire fight. I am convinced that over time he will be able to become a big star of the ACB, as well as Russia, Europe and even the world, he has great potential, – Magomed Bakaev, organizer of the ACB league fights, said in 2015.
In the semi-finals of the Grand Prix, Peter met with a dangerous wrestling style fighter Kharon Orzumiev. The representative of the Chechen club “Berkut”, like most experts, expected that Peter’s main danger would come from his smashing blows.
– My opponent is a pronounced striker, a very strong opponent, but I have something to oppose him. The Octagon will show how everything will be, but I’m ready. I went through three training camps at the Berkut base and I feel very good. I wish my opponent good luck, but I’m confident in myself,” Charon said before the fight.
“We really didn’t have time to fight”
Peter also perfectly understood with whom he would have to share the “cage” in the semifinal duel. It was logical to expect from Jan that he would try to avoid fighting his opponent, but everything went in a completely different scenario.
The fighters were eager to start the fight, they even started ahead of time, but the referee prudently returned the impatient opponents to their place. Only on the second attempt was it possible to move on to confrontation. But, as soon as the gong sounded, both fighters sharply slowed down their attacking ardor, starting to act very carefully.
Only in the 20th second of the fight, Orzumiev tried to get at the feet of Jan, but this decision turned out to be fatal for him. Peter saw the open neck and instantly grabbed it. Charon could not get out of this guillotine. The courage of the Chechen fighter, of course, can be envied, he did not give up, but this led to a natural result. After 15 seconds, he lost consciousness due to lack of oxygen.
The referee immediately stopped the fight and began providing first aid to Orzumiev. By the time the winner was announced, Charon was brought to his senses, but he was clearly dumbfounded after such an unexpected defeat.
“We didn’t really have time to fight. There was a fast finish from Peter. He had a sense of distance and timing at the highest level even then, ”Orzumiev recalled the details of the defeat a few years later, when Ian was already conquering the UFC with might and main.
The quick victory allowed Petr to reach the final of the ACB League Grand Prix, which he will win and get a chance to fight for the championship belt of this promotion.
