All judges think Ian was stronger than O’Malley in the second round
The referee’s notes of the fight between Peter Yan (Russia) and Sean O’Malley (USA) have been published.
The bantamweight three-round fight took place on October 22 as part of the main card of UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi. The judges gave the victory to the American by a split decision – 29:28, 28:29, 29:28.
According to UFC press release cards, referees Ben Cartlidge and David Lethaby gave O’Malley a 29-28 win. They gave the Russian only the second round (9-10, 10-9, 9-10).
Judge Vito Paolillo declared Jan the winner – 29-28. Yan only lost the third round according to Paolillo (10–9, 10–9, 9–10).
Yan, 29, is number one in the UFC bantamweight rankings. He has 20 fights (16 wins and 4 losses). He is a former UFC Bantamweight Champion.
27-year-old O’Malley won 16 times in MMA and lost once.
The main event of the UFC 280 tournament will be a lightweight title fight in which Russian Islam Makhachev will fight against Charles Oliveira from Brazil. The broadcast of the main card can be watched on the Match TV and Match! Fighter”.
