“A couple of years ago I said that Makhachev would become the UFC champion” – Finkelstein
Promoter Vadim Finkelstein told RT that he had long predicted Russian fighter Islam Makhachev to win the title fight in the UFC.
On Saturday, Makhachev defeated the Brazilian Charles Oliveira and won the lightweight championship belt.
– I did not doubt the success of Makhachev. It is quite possible to call him the second Khabib. You can feel his school. I know Islam well, because he had four fights in my M-1. Frankly, a couple of years ago he said: he will be the champion of the UFC.
- Absolutely all his fights were already spectacular. Plus, he’s a very professional guy. But strong athletes did not get to us. You see how great Ramazan Emeev and Shavkat Rakhmonov are performing in the UFC now,” Finkelstein said.
