Fedor Emelianenko responded to Karelin, who called mixed martial arts not a sport
President of the Union of Mixed Martial Arts of Russia Fedor Emelianenko reacted to the words of Alexander Karelin, who had previously stated that he did not consider MMA a sport.
– Not all of us, probably, know what mixed martial arts were originally. It was called fighting without rules and probably lived up to this name. Now these are mixed martial arts, in which there are many rules, many restrictions. MMA deserves to be a sport. A lot of work was done with the Ministry of Sports, whose specialists compared sports, the same wrestling, sambo, combat sambo, hand-to-hand combat. Specialists of the Ministry of Sports gave the definition that this is a sport, – quotes Emelianenko MMA.Metaratings.ru.
Fedor Emelianenko also spoke about his attitude towards women in mixed martial arts.
– In general, in principle, I have a negative attitude towards women in martial arts. But I have great respect for the girls who represent our country in these sports,” he said.
