UFC officially announced the fight between Makhachev and Volkanovski in Australia
Islam Makhachev will make his first UFC title defense on February 12, 2023 against Australian Alexander Volkanovski.
The fight will headline the card at UFC 284 scheduled for Feb. 12 in Perth, Australia.
For Makhachev, this fight will be the first after winning the title of champion of the promotion. Islam previously strangled Brazilian Charles Oliveira to become the new lightweight title holder.
Volkanovski is the reigning featherweight champion and will now try his hand at a new weight class.
Makhachev scored 23 victories in his career with one defeat. Volkanovski has 25 wins to his credit and also lost only once in his career.
