Canelo Alvarez is attacking the light heavyweight category again, but it is not with Artur Beterbiev that he will fight it out.

The undisputed super middleweight champion is making a comeback at 175 pounds for the title owned by Dmitry Bivol according to Mike Coppinger of ESPN. The two clans would have concluded an agreement for a fight which will take place on May 7th.

In November 2019, Alvarez had defeated by K.-O. in the 11th round the Russian Sergey Kovalev in the light heavyweight. Alvarez’s contract would be for two fights and everything indicates that if he were to defeat Bivol, he would then complete the trilogy with Gennady Golovkin in September. The latter must first defeat Ryoto Murata in April. This fight would be held at 168 pounds.

Alvarez (57-1-2, 39 KOs) had a draw at GGG in September 2017 before winning a year later by majority decision. Recognized as a tactician, Bivol will challenge his perfect record after 19 professional fights.

In the past year, Canelo has gotten the better of Billy Joe Saunders and Caleb Plant, among others.
