On February 11, in the USA, Ukraine’s Victor Vykhrist (11-0, 7 KOs) will face Cuban Leinier Perot (8-0, 5 KOs). The next fight of the Ukrainians in America could be a real test, because the opponent is a talented and technical athlete.

Serious trials have already been made in the career of the Ukrainian boxer. This fight may be the most serious right now.

Viktor Vykhrist is well run. They have both serious fights and absolutely bad fights for general practice.

It is now generally accepted that building a career through Germany is unreasonable. Because the Germans lead their boxers in a standard and conservative way. That is, they choose for themselves a group of suitable opponents who, in one way or another, cannot really compete with the fighter.

They may also have good records and appear to be good athletes. But they’re actually all guards who do stale boxing for money and fill records of more promising fighters.

But the Ukrainian Viktor Vykhryst went there. Because his friend and manager Andriy Kotelnik had connections with the German organizers and they saw the new Klitschko in Ukraine. The whole idea looked dubious. Not because of the crossing itself, but because they were German, they also changed the surname of Viktor for the wars – from Vykhrist to Faust. It even sounded funny.

But Vykhrist is well managed. Victor boxed in Germany, Ukraine, France and the USA. Among the competitors were Kamil Sokolovsky, Mike Marshal, Yago Kiladze, Kevin Johnson. Although it is not easy to overcome all these rivals, it is very good for the start of a career.

Johnson was eliminated by Vykhryst by decision of the judges. And looking at the record of the American (now 35-21) who would quickly equalize wins and losses, it’s hard to knock Kevin out even at 43. Vitali Klitschko did not succeed in 2009 – the Ukrainian later became the first to surpass the American. This put Tyson Fury down in 2012, Derek Chisora in 2014, Kubrat Pulev in 2017, and Philip Hrgovic and Andy Ruiz in 2018. Therefore, the absence of a knockout from Vykhrist is the norm here.

But there was a problem with Kiladze. Iago came to the fight against the Ukrainian with a terrible series: he did not win five fights in a row, and four of them were defeats. Moreover, all by knockout: Georgian boxer Adam Kownacki knocked out Michael Hunter, Joe Joyce and Efe Ajagba. There was another draw. Then the victory and the meeting with Vykhristom.

But these numbers were somewhat confusing. Iago didn’t always look bad. Against Ajagba, he generally managed to knock out the clear favorite. What did he do with Vykhrist? Kiladze fell twice in the first round, Victor – once. Then the Ukrainian fell again in the second round but also responded with a knockdown. The referee thought that Georgian was enough and took out the person he had been shoved in his face.

On the one hand, it’s a brilliant show. Even brighter than the main fight between Ortiz and Martin that evening. On the other hand, the Ukrainian has obvious problems with protection. Not only did he fly well enough, it was also quite difficult for Victor to experience it.

After that, the Ukrainian boxed two more times – he beat the already mentioned Kevin Johnson and Franklin Lawrence. Are the battered 47-year-old warriors (yes, both 47) getting carried away? No way. But it was done calmly and confidently. What cannot be expected in a fight against Pero?

Cuba has no victories over rivals at the intersection of Vykhrist. He beat the good Cuban heavyweight Giovanni Bruzon and beat a few more average fighters.

At the same time, the level of the Cuban athlete cannot be said to be unobtrusive. Leinier was a two-time Pan American Games champion in 2015 and 2021. He even competed in the 2016 Olympics. There he first outstripped the Italian Guido Vianello and then lost to Philip Hrgovic.

It looks good on Pro. He sometimes misses blows against himself, but he’s resourceful and technical in a Cuban way. Very smart, works great in counter attacks. Thanks to its flexibility, it avoids blows and instantly moves towards it. And also in general. Just two centimeters below Vychrist – 194 cm tall. And they have slightly shorter arms – 206 cm versus 201 cm, in favor of the Ukrainian.

Who is your favourite?

It’s actually very soft here. Vychrist’s dimensions succumbed to Feather’s high-quality technical skills. They also battle Victor’s experience. The impact force is approximately the same for both. Even the percentage of early wins is almost equal: 64.64% for Victor and 62.5% for Leinier.

Anyone can win and lose. Moreover, and definitely a knockout. Although the latter now seems more likely for Ukrainians. Because we saw that his head was not reinforced concrete. No one in the pros has really controlled Perot’s head, and Victor can do it.

Side factors will affect the victory. Training level, fight plan, morale and even proper pre-fight nutrition. Whoever completes the preparatory camp better in a complex way wins. Because in general everything is interesting, very different, but also quite equal.

It is a fact that Vykhrist will hit and take it. Because despite all his skill, the Cuban still misses. Another question – how much and how qualitatively? It is a fact that Leinier will shoot. The Ukrainian does not look like a fighter with excellent defense. Exactly how, how long and whether it will withstand the blow is also an important point.

It is impossible to exclude the knockout of one or another athlete. This makes it even more interesting.

The duel between Viktor Vykhryst and Leinier Perot will take place on February 11 in San Antonio (USA). The fight will take place on the bottom card of the fight for the vacant WBC super featherweight title between Ray Vargas and O’Shaky Foster.
