LONDON, UK — WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury of Britain has announced he will retire after his April 23 fight against compatriot Dillian Whyte in London for the defense of his title, believing that he has “nothing more to prove”.
Everyone dreamed, in the event of victory against Whyte, his mandatory challenger, of a title reunification fight against the winner of the rematch between his compatriot Anthony Joshua and the Ukrainian Oleksander Usyk who robbed him of his WBA, IBF belts and WBO last September.
But on the sidelines of an event which took place in London on Tuesday to present his April 23 fight, Fury assured that he would be “completely retired” after facing Whyte.
“What I want to do after boxing is laze on a beach, drink pina coladas, drive Ferraris and live on a boat, period. This is what I will do, ”insisted the 33-year-old boxer.
Asked about his ambitions to unify the belts, the “Gipsy King”, the nickname he gave himself, replied that he was “unbeaten double world champion, (that he had) 150 million in [son] bank account and nothing left to prove to anyone.
