“I want to win for Ukraine, but my fight is easy compared to what is happening at home. The real fight is in Ukraine, against Russia. »
Those words were spoken by Ukrainian fighter Maryna Moroz this week, on the eve of her fight against Mariya Agapova at UFC 272.
Saturday night in the second round, Moroz scored what is possibly the most emotional victory of her career when she defeated the Kazakh by triangle choke with one minute and 33 seconds left in the engagement.
“My country is at war right now. My family is in Ukraine, I had a difficult week. I worried and cried because my family is in a bad situation. Thanks for the messages and the support, because it’s been a tough week. I wanted to cry because of this war in my country,” Moroz said in powerful testimony after his victory, before bursting into tears.
Moroz had not boarded the octagon since March 14, 2020.
“I had a lot of problems, I was injured, I was stuck in Ukraine because of COVID-19. It’s been a tough two years, but I’m back, I’m happy, and I’m ready to fight,” added Moroz.
Moroz signed the 6th victory by submission of his career.
