Former UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya has pleaded guilty to drink driving, the NZ Herald reports.

Adesanya was charged with driving while intoxicated in Oakland on Aug. 19. The fighter’s blood alcohol level was 87 milligrams per 100 milliliters of blood, the permissible limit in the country is 50 milligrams.

“I want to apologize to the community, my family and my team for my decision to drive after drinking at dinner.” I’m disappointed with my decision, it was wrong.

I know that people are watching me, I want them to know that I do not consider this behavior acceptable,” Adesanya said.

The fighter faces a prison term of three months or a fine of $4,500. The fighter is expected to be sentenced in January 2024.

On September 10, American Sean Strickland defeated Adesanya by unanimous decision at UFC 293 and won the promotion’s middleweight belt.
