George Foreman named the best fighter he ever stepped into the ring with
One of the greatest heavyweights in boxing history George ForemanThe boxer, who fought with names such as Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier and Evander Holyfield, chose the best boxer he has ever fought.
“I have to say Ron Lyle because he gave me the toughest fight of my career. He hit me very hard, knocked me down, knocked me down himself and got up. It was the toughest fight of my life.
I could have done whatever I wanted with Muhammad Ali, but I was tired and he managed to knock me out. If I had been more respectful to Ali, I might have been able to relax a little bit and preserve my energy at some points in that fight, but if it had been Ron Lyle, I wouldn’t have been able to relax because he would have killed me,” Foreman said.
In 1976, Foreman and Lyle had an epic five-round fight that ended with George winning by knockout. This fight was named “Fight of the Year” by Ring Magazine.
Foreman had previously named two boxers who hit harder than the fighters of their era.
