At UFC Vegas 52, Marc-Andre Barriault (14-5) and Charles Jourdain (13-4-1) both won their bouts via first-round submission.
Marc-André Barriault (14-5) offered a correction to Jordan Wright, when he won his fight by submission in the first round after only 2 minutes 36 seconds.
Barriault brought his opponent to the ground well, then finished the job with a guillotine. This is the very first victory by submission of the career of “Power Bar”.
” I am really happy. When I let myself go and I trust myself, I am capable of doing great things and I proved it today,” Barriault said in an interview with RDS shortly after his victory.
Barriault was scheduled to fight on the preliminary card, but his bout moved to the main card due to the cancellation of the Romanov-Sherman bout.
It was the last fight on Barriault’s four-fight UFC contract. This win comes at the perfect time for the 32-year-old fighter.
He had not looked well during his last appearance in the octagon against Chidi Ndjokuani on February 5 in Las Vegas. Barriault was inclined after only 16 small seconds.
“It’s as if I had slipped on a banana peel. It happens. Of course I wanted to prove to myself that it was just a mistake, that I was capable of doing better, added Barriault. When I got the call on 12 days notice, I didn’t hesitate. I was ready. I accomplished tonight what I wanted. »
Jordan also ends before the limit
Immediately after Barriault’s performance, Charles Jourdain (13-4-1) did not want his compatriot to be the only Quebec star of the evening.
He was quick with Lando Vannata, also winning by submission in the first round, this one only 4 seconds faster than his compatriot. He signs two consecutive UFC victories for the first time in his career.
“Both of us had a great victory. Get in, get rich, get out!, rejoiced Jourdain from the outset, also on the airwaves of RDS. Marc-André is like a brother to me. We got into the UFC around the same time, fought on a few cards together and I got to know him through it all. We are happy for each other. »
Jourdain won the fight with a guillotine after 2 minutes and 32 seconds. He managed to bring Vannata to the ground with a good left hand and finished the fight with a one-armed guillotine. He then issued a challenge to Edson Barboza after his victory.
“I know the UFC might want to go to Toronto or Paris, but it depends on the dates and how my body feels. Although it was a quick victory, the camp was very difficult, said Jourdain, adding that he fought despite a foot injury. I know Barboza is only No. 14, but what interests me is having the biggest war for the fans. »
It was a first fight in 2022 for Jourdain, who had seen his fight against Ilia Topuria canceled last January.
Andrade surprises Lemos
In the main event of the night, Jessica Andrade made a triumphant return to strawweight with a first-round submission win over Amanda Lemos.
The former world champion pulled off a feat with a triangle arm, while the two fighters were standing. Andrade makes history with a 14th UFC win, tying Amanda Nunes’ mark for most wins on the women’s side.
It’s a loss that will hurt for Lemos, who was on a five-game winning streak. It was considered by many to be the best in its category.
In Andrade’s case, she was making a comeback in the division, having fought twice at flyweight in 2021 and once in 2020. She bowed out for the title to Valentina Shevchenko, before bouncing back with a win over Cynthia Calvillo a few months later last year. She is now back at strawweight, where she was champion.
