UFC lightweight champion Russian Islam Makhachev said that Irish fighter Conor McGregor does not deserve a fight with him.
In October, Makhachev successfully defended his championship title at UFC 294, knocking out Australian Alexander Volkanovski in the first round. The professional record of the 31-year-old Russian is 24 victories and one defeat.
– Can you imagine a fight between you and McGregor?
– If he comes back and deserves it, wins 3-4 fights, then yes. I definitely won’t ask for this fight, because I don’t think it deserves it. And I don’t even think that he deserves it, I have little faith that he will return to his winning streak, be able to defeat real contenders and become the first candidate for the title. But if the UFC management says, then I will agree [на бой с Макгрегором],” the Match TV website quotes Makhachev as saying.
In his last fight, McGregor lost by technical knockout to American Dustin Poirier in July 2021, suffering a broken leg. In total, the 35-year-old Irishman won 22 victories and suffered six defeats in his career.
