On the night of November 16-17, the fight took place between WBO super featherweight champion Emanuel Navarrete (38-1-1, 31 knockouts) and Brazilian rival Robson Conceicao (17-2) at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, USA. -1, 8 knockouts). Different fighting styles, completely different boxers and pre-match expectations that the Brazilian would not be an easy rival to the Mexican came true.

To be honest, Navarrete even saved itself from defeat. Although the judge’s notes do not say that.

Navarrete lost completely at the beginning of the match. Luckily the Brazilian player doesn’t have a strong enough punch

There’s just something about stylish fighters like Navarrete. Everyone understands that it is possible to defeat them, but few people achieve it. As if a Mexican doesn’t have anything like that. He’s big, he’s strong, he hits well, and he’s got a lot of it. Is this surprising? But this, combined with other skills and gifts of fate, became decisive for Emanuel.

In previous categories the Mexican looked great. It was much larger than its competitors. It is certainly more resilient, if not more so, because nature created it that way. I can lose weight and not lose my effectiveness. However, the move to second featherweight calls into question his abilities.

In the beginning was Liam Wilson. He is not only the best boxer in the world, but also the best boxer in the division. He knocked out the Mexican but was unable to cope physically and lost by technical knockout a few rounds later. Then there was Oscar Valdez. The much smaller Mexican was boxed nicely. And more often than not, he hit his opponent in a way that anyone else could have fallen. However, Oscar was too small against Navarrete and Emanuel took advantage of this perfectly.

Now here is Robson Conceicao. He is both big and very athletic. Just without hitting. Still, 8 of the 17 victories were early; This is such an indicator. The Brazilian has never relied on shots because he can’t destroy them. It works well in some rare cases. And sometimes even bright. But not in a way that will crash and cause any opponent to stumble.

On the other hand, this does not exist in Navarrete. He has a strong shot, there is no doubt about that. He also knows how to take a blow – he takes it as if it never happened. But it’s not a show stopper. I only have the power to hit hard and very hard.

Thus problems arose with Conceicao. It can be expected from anywhere. Robson could surpass the Mexican as an option. He is a very slippery person. He could shoot from a distance and run back. But no, the Brazilian began to fight and beat the Mexican. I’m only interested in Navarrete’s case. And it worked.

Emanuel slept through the opening rounds. Conceicao hit him from every direction, pressured him, and he tried to catch his mistakes. The boxers switched places, but not in favor of the favourite.

When Navarrete woke up there was a collapse. But it’s nothing terrible. The left uppercut, which the Mexican player constantly uses successfully, landed. Conceicao sensed the problem and sat down. Then I held my knee so I could calmly return to the fight. Yes, I lost the round, but tactically it was a normal decision. Within seconds he was breathing well and feeling fine.

The Brazilian continued his line. Unfortunately, his strength began to abandon him and his opponent had just awakened. Looks like you just need to ride the bike a bit and let the other person swing. But Conceicao began to return blow after blow. And yet it didn’t look bad. Although this is not his element. He has every opportunity not to be afraid of such an opponent simply because of his size and skills.

The second knockout came in the seventh round. Robson did indeed miss badly to the body, but overall he fell not because of the blow but because his opponent was leaning on him. However, the referee counted the knockout and this is understandable. Maybe from his point of view everything seemed like such a decision dynamically.

No, the Brazilian did not fall apart here either. As always, Navarrete gained momentum and pushed steadily until the championship rounds. Conceicao was tired, exhausted, but he fought to the end and still didn’t look bad. If he had added more striking power, Navarrete could have lost at the start.

In the last round, they were both so exhausted that they couldn’t even fight with spiritual strength. We fought only to achieve and capture victory.

Fortunately, the first one was successful for both fighters. No one was successful in the second one. One side saw the victory of Navarrete. It’s quite controversial. The other two were tied 113-113. Knockouts helped Emanuel retain the title.

What’s next?

Emanuel Navarrete promised to take revenge on the Brazilian if he wanted. He says Robson deserves it.

Of course he deserved it. Three championship chances and constant failures. First, a close fight with Oscar Valdez. Then a tough test for Shakur Stevenson. I could win today. However, he could not win because a draw is a normal result.

And also because it wasn’t an ideal battle plan, even though it was a very good one. Apparently if you’re old enough you can fight Navarrete. What happens if Emanuel fights a very big and smart boxer by punching him? There are a lot of people like that in the lightweight division and he’ll get there.

Robson can take revenge. The fans really enjoyed this match and will definitely come for the second one. You just need to do something with the plan. Maybe not the constant chopping. Dose changes and smart boxing that allow your opponent to lose power. As we can see, Emanuel’s durability is not very strong.

On the other hand, Navarrete knows very well what to do against the Brazilian player. He will be better prepared for the second fight and will try to attack the uppercut by applying even more pressure. In general, there are more questions before a possible rematch than before the first fight.

In the first fight, we thought about whether the Brazilian could cope with his opponent and whether he had enough boxing intelligence. Now we understand that there are chances for this, but the Mexican player can also improve and prevent his opponent from doing what he wants.

Intrigue, interesting, let’s do the second part.
