These competitions will be held as part of the next IBA Night of Champions tournament, organized by the Soyuz promotion company with the support of the International Boxing Association (IBA) and the Russian Boxing Federation.

In November 2022, Egorov fought for the full WBA heavyweight belt, but, unfortunately, lost to the Frenchman Arsen Gulamiryan. Egorov had already managed to “cover up” that failure with a quick victory over his compatriot Vladimir Zhigailov. That fight took place in May in Yekaterinburg.

28-year-old Jones has fought against such strong opponents as Junior Anthony Wright, Joey Dyveko, Derick Miller Jr. and many others. In his last fight, Jones won a unanimous decision over Vernon Webber in October. Jones will be boxing outside of the United States for the first time.

The match between the teams of Russia and the USA will be held in the format of professional boxing, and the fights will consist of four rounds of three minutes each.

Up to 60 kg: Vsevolod Shumkov (Russia) – Abel Mendoza (USA)

Up to 72 kg: Yuri Osipov (Russia) – Nikita Ababiy (USA)

Up to 75 kg: Pavel Sosulin (Russia) – Kwame Ritter (USA)

Up to 80 kg: Beshto Shavlaev (Russia) – Ronald Ellis (USA)

90.7+ kg: Alexey Egorov (Russia) – Joe Jones (USA)

Also on December 16 there will be two 10-round fights. Former WBC Youth belt holder Konstantin Ponomarev (35-2, KO 14) returns to the ring after a two-year layoff and will challenge the Russian super middleweight champion belt with Orkhan Gadzhiev (14-2-2, KO 11). The international boxing evening in Moscow will open with a confrontation between Muhammad Shekhov (13-0-1, KO 4) from Uzbekistan and Leonardo Carillo (17-0-1, KO 8) from Colombia.

Naoya Inoue reacts to his victory and Usik’s arrival in Saudi Arabia

Absolute world champion in the second lightweight category Naoya Inoue (32-0, 27 KOs) commented on the victory of the fight played on Saturday, December 27th.

In Saudi Arabia, the Japanese representative defeated Mexican Alan David Picasso by unanimous decision and defended his WBC, WBO, WBA and IBF titles.

After the final bell, the reporter asked Inoue whether he should take the first place in the ranking of the world’s strongest boxers, which is currently occupied by Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk.

The strongest boxers of our time – Ukrainian Alexander Usik and Japanese Naoya Inoue – We met in the ring of Mohammed Abdo Aren in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) on December 27th.

On this day, a boxing night took place, the main event of which was the fight in the weight category up to 55.3 kg. WBC, WBO, WBA, IBF world champion Inoue (30-0, 27 KOs) defeated his Mexican opponent Alan David Picasso (32-0-1, 17 KOs).

The fight continued for all 12 rounds and ended with a confident victory for the Japanese “Beast” by unanimous decision.

After the final gong, Usik approached the champion in the ring, congratulated him on his victory and shook hands. Inoue admitted that he was not 100% satisfied with his performance and appreciated the Ukrainian’s place in the ranking of the strongest boxers of our time.

Next year, Usik plans to fight against former American champion Deontay Wilder, and Naoya is considering two options: Junto Nakatani or Jesse Rodriguez.
