Khabib brought the surrendered American to a loss of consciousness. And burst into tears right in the cage

The referee’s mistake nearly cost Nurmagomedov’s opponent his life.

After the grand fight between Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte, they started talking with renewed vigor about the superiority of professional boxing over mixed martial arts as a show. Right now, the UFC simply has nothing to answer for the madness that was happening at Wembley.

Surely the head of the top MMA promotion, Dana White, does not cease to regret the departure of Khabib Nurmagomedov from the organization. Each fight of the Eagle aroused unprecedented interest and raised the mixed martial arts industry to an even higher level.

Khabib was able to surprise everyone in his last fight. He had never been so close to defeat.

First fight after father’s death

Khabib regularly entered the octagon in the last years of his career, but Nurmagomedov’s fans had to wait more than a year for the 29th fight. He was originally supposed to fight Tony Ferguson in May 2020, but due to the coronavirus pandemic and closed borders, this fight was canceled.

The Russian athlete reached the UFC octagon only in October. By this time, Justin Gati became Nurmagomedov’s rival, who defeated Ferguson in a face-to-face confrontation.

Preparation for the battle of our fighter turned out to be crumpled. In the summer, Khabib’s father Abdulmanap, who inspired him throughout his career, died. But Nurmagomedov’s motivation for this fight could not be overestimated. He entered the octagon with the utmost concentration.

Everything didn’t go according to plan

The opponents spent almost the entire first round standing. Justin tried to keep Nurmagomedov at a distance, often throwing low kicks. Khabib answered him in the same way and was looking for opportunities for rapprochement and transfer to the ground. Also, opponents periodically exchanged heavy blows. Gaethje was more successful in exchanges. He hit Khabib’s head well several times, but these attacks did not cause serious damage to the Russian.

The last two minutes passed at the initiative of Nurmagomedov. Justin literally ran from our fighter along the octagon, occasionally counterattacking. The American diligently avoided the opponent’s attempt to transfer the fight to the ground. But shortly before the siren, Khabib made a successful pass to the legs and knocked the American to the canvas. However, Nurmagomedov’s attempt to hold a submission arm 40 seconds before the siren was unsuccessful. Justin’s submission to the painful one looked much more dangerous. It seemed that he was very close to making the star opponent give up, but Khabib was able to get out of the situation with experience.

And yet, according to the results of the five-minute period, two of the three judges gave the victory in the round to the American fighter. In the entire history of performances in the UFC with Nurmagomedov, this happened only the second time. Before that, he once lost in the round only to McGregor.

Judge’s mistake cost American dearly

The ideal wrestling technique of Nurmagomedov was well known to all opponents of the fighter, but it was she who brought him the most victories in the octagon. Painful and suffocating techniques have become a sentence for many athletes in the octagon. It was not possible to avoid this fate and Gati.

The fighters spent the first minute of the second round in a standing position, but after Khabib’s successful pass to the legs, the showdown continued on the ground. It took Nurmagomedov 30 seconds to finish everything. Justin allowed the Russian to hold the choke through the triangle with his feet.

Gati, who before the fight promised not to give up in any case, with his last strength pounded his palm on the back of the Russian, but the judge missed this moment. As a result, Khabib strangled the American until he lost consciousness, and only then the fight was stopped.

Khabib cried and announced his departure

This victory was the 29th for Khabib, but definitely the most emotional. He fell to his knees, covered his face with his hands, and wept. Even the loser Gaethje, having recovered a little, approached our fighter to support him. After that, Khabib got to his feet, but emotions continued to overwhelm him until the very announcement of the winner, even the encouragement and congratulations of his team did not help.

This brilliant victory was the last for Nurmagomedov in the octagon. Right in the cage, he announced that, at the request of his mother, he would no longer fight. And now, for a year and a half, he has kept his word. And if Khabib is doing great after the end of his career, then you can’t say the same about the UFC. There is simply no fighter in the promotion whose fights can cause such a resonance.

Tyson FURY: “Usyk will refuse to fight him and vacate the title”

former world champion Tyson Rage The WBC interim champion commented on the possible fight between Agit Kabayel and Alexander Usik. The British boxer believes that Usik will most likely vacate the WBC title because it is commercially unprofitable to defend the belt against ranked opponents.

“Personally, I don’t think Usyk will fight someone ranked in the WBC because there’s no point in it. Will he get paid to fight Agit Kabayel? No. He wants to fight popular names with fans, so he will vacate his WBC title. Agit will be the champion and then he will be able to defend it against the winner of the Okolie-Itauma fight,” Fury said.

Previously, Alexander Usik (24-0, 15 KOs), the holder of the WBC, WBA and IBF heavyweight titles (over 90.7 kg), talked about his plans and admitted when he plans to end his professional career. The boxer recently vacated his WBO title and lost his status as absolute world champion.

The Russian champion switched to the flag of a foreign country. I had to pay for the solution

Malik stopped joining the national team, and compensation will be paid for his transfer.

The issue of the return of Russian athletes to international tournaments is finally moving to a practical level. In some sports we are talking about performing under national symbols. However, even at such times there are those who want to change the flag.

The Russian wrestling champion decided to represent Kyrgyzstan. But the FSBI is not too worried about the loss.

    New champion of Kyrgyzstan

The transition of Russian athletes to foreign flags is not a new phenomenon, although from the moment Russians began to be discriminated against in the international arena, the unpleasant process has intensified. Figure skaters, tennis players, wrestlers, swimmers, and cyclists left for the national teams of other countries for various reasons.

It would seem that the situation for our athletes has begun to change for the better: performing at international competitions is now not such a rarity, some have even begun to compete or are preparing to do so under the tricolor. But those who want to change their sports citizenship still remain. The day before, freestyle wrestler Malik Shavaev decided to switch to a foreign flag.

The two-time champion of Russia and champion of the BRICS Games won the Kyrgyz championship in freestyle wrestling in the weight category up to 86 kg and now intends to represent this country on the international stage. In 2026, Bishkek will host the Asian Championships, a little later Bahrain will host the World Championships, and Japan will host the Asian Games. Malik, if circumstances do not interfere, is preparing to compete at these international tournaments.

    “We get compensation”

The President of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR), Mikhail Mamiashvili, does not see a big tragedy in the athlete’s transition to the banner of Kyrgyzstan.

    — He is not a member of the Russian national team. Therefore, he decided to change his citizenship and try his luck in the Kyrgyz national team. It is completed in accordance with the established procedure, and we receive compensation for this. “And I can only wish Malik success,” Mamiashvili told Match TV.

If we leave out the success at the BRICS Games, then Malik did not manage to make much noise on the international stage. In 2021, at the European Championships, he lost in the quarterfinals, and over time, he stopped making the national team altogether. Of course, this is not exactly a valid reason to change citizenship. But if there is no hope of returning to the ranks of the strongest at the national level, and career ambitions are higher than the flag, then what is the point of keeping such an athlete?

In general, there is nothing good about any losses for Russian sports. But it’s better to part with those who cannot compete with the strongest, and even receive compensation, than to give away potential champions. Moreover, Malik did not allow himself to make pretentious speeches about a “new homeland,” which some ex-Russian tennis players were guilty of. Therefore, in a particular case, perhaps, we can sincerely wish the wrestler success on the mat. Of course, with the exception of fights with the Russians.
