WBC President on Usik’s fight with Fury: “This is a great moment for boxing”
WBC President Mauricio Suleiman He shared his views on the upcoming fight between WBC heavyweight belt holder Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) and WBA, WBO, IBO and IBF champion Alexander Usik (21-0, 14 KOs).
“From what I understand, both Fury and Usyk, as well as Wilder and Joshua, have agreed to a rematch.
I’m very happy about this. We have been striving for this for many years. When Wilder was our champion [с 2015 по 2020 год]We gave him every opportunity and time to meet Joshua. When Fury beat Wilder to become champion, we did a few things hoping that Fury would fight Joshua and then Usyk. So it was a long process. Now it’s happened and the WBC is proud, happy and supportive. This is a great moment for boxing,” said Suleiman.
Tyson Fury will face Alexander Usik in Saudi Arabia on February 17.
Suleiman had previously criticized the IBF’s decision regarding Terence Crawford.
