Petr Yan says he doesn’t see Sterling as a full-fledged UFC champion
Russian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Petr Yan believes that UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling “didn’t do something championship” in a fight with him, and also said that he doesn’t perceive the American as the owner of the belt.
These opponents had two fights between themselves. In March 2021, Yang, who previously owned the UFC belt, lost due to disqualification, in April 2022 – by a separate decision of the judges.
“I understand that this is an individual sport. You can only blame yourself. And look for excuses and refer to someone … I know what mistakes I made and where I didn’t work out, ”Yan said during a conversation with reporters.
Was Sterling underestimated on your part?
– Did not have. From a sporting point of view, I understood that one should not underestimate an opponent. They also prepared well for me. Again, I lost to myself. The mistakes I made are my mistakes. And you constantly blame yourself for doing a lot of stupid things in the second fight. But this is my way.
The way of martial arts is like this: today you are on horseback, tomorrow the situation is different. Certain experience. I think I’m still young. I have everything to hit, come back and win. Need to rest. Let’s gas up some more.
Do you see Sterling as a champion?
I don’t see it as a champion. I had two fights with him. I would not say that he did something champion either in the first or in the second fights. Yes, he said before the fight that this would be the biggest “robbery”. And so it happened. He is also well done, that he believes in his strength and visualizes. But I still can’t consider him a champion. Maybe I’ll come to this later.
– Has he ceased to be a clown and an artist?
“He can’t stop being an artist because he seems to have studied for something like that. It’s with him for life. There is also something clownish in it. It’s not bad – clowns are also funny (laughs).

Magomedov fought his last fight in July 2025 at the UFC on ABC 9 tournament, defeating Canadian Marc-Andre Barrio by unanimous decision. The Russian has 16 wins and one loss.

Olympic champion and former interim WBA super featherweight champion Albert Batyrgaziev decided to take a break from his professional career.
At the beginning of July in Istanbul at the “IBA.PRO 8” tournament, Batyrgaziev lost early to the British James Dickens and lost the IBA.PRO champion and interim WBA champion titles in the second featherweight division. For the 27-year-old Russian, this was the first defeat in his professional career.

Batyrgaziev won gold in the weight category up to 57 kg at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. In the professional ring he has 12 wins and one loss.

Russian UFC fighter Arman Tsarukyan said that he will give his compatriot Sharabutdin Magomedov, nicknamed Shara Bullet, an apartment in Yerevan if he defeats him in a grappling fight.
The fight is scheduled for December 30 and should take place in Yerevan.
“If Shara wins against me, then I will personally give him an apartment in Yerevan,” Tsarukyan said in a video published on the Red Corner MMA page on the X social network.
