The first UFC heavyweight champion was injured in a fire while rescuing his parents from the fire.

The first regular UFC heavyweight champion, Mark Coleman, was admitted to intensive care, ESPN reports.

According to his daughter Morgan, a fire started in Coleman’s home in Toledo, Ohio, in the early morning.

The dog, named Hammer, woke Mark up, after which he pulled his parents out of the house and went back to get the dog, but lost consciousness from smoke inhalation. Reportedthat rescuers rushed Coleman by helicopter to the hospital.

Coleman is an NCAA Division I champion and former member of the USA freestyle wrestling team. He won the UFC champion title in 1997, defeating Dan Severn.

Coleman became the fifth fighter in history to be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.
