Taiwan’s Lin Yuting has reached the semi-finals of the boxing competition at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

In the quarterfinals of the 57 kg weight category, Yuting defeated Svetlana Staneva from Bulgaria with a score of 5:0.

The semi-final match is scheduled for August 7. Lin Yuting’s opponent will be Esra Yildiz from Turkey.

In 2023, the International Boxing Association (IBA) suspended Yuting and Algerian Iman Khelif from the World Championships in India for failing to meet the eligibility criteria. A gender test showed that the athletes had XY chromosomes. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) allowed them to compete in women’s competitions in 2024.

On Thursday, Italian Angela Carini refused to continue her 1/8 final boxing match in the 66 kg weight category against Khelif at the 2024 Olympics. Carini fell to her knees and burst into tears right in the ring.

In the quarterfinal bout in the 66 kg category, Khelif defeated Hungary’s Luca Hamori with a score of 5–0. Thus, the Algerian guaranteed herself bronze at the 2024 Olympics.

The Olympic Games will end on August 11.
