“Remember how I knocked you down? I can do it again” – Russian Amineva challenges Algerian who failed gender test

BRICS Games winner Azalia Amineva has challenged Iman Khelif of Algeria, who failed the gender test and was cleared by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to compete in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Khelif, along with Lin Yuting from Taiwan, were admitted to the women’s boxing competition at the Games in the French capital. Both athletes have already reached the semi-finals of the competition and guaranteed themselves at least bronze medals. In 2023, they were suspended by the International Boxing Association (IBA) due to failure to meet the eligibility criteria. Gender testing showed that the athletes have XY chromosomes. Amineva lost to Khelif at the 2023 World Boxing Championships.

— Hello, Iman Khelif. Don’t you think there’s too much unfounded hype around you? Remember how we boxed in 2023 in India at the World Championships, where I knocked you down? I’m ready to repeat that moment and send you to the mat again to answer for all the girls you got in the way of, — Amineva said in a video that she posted on her social media page.

The 21-year-old athlete also accompanied the post with a caption, stating that she is ready to enter both the professional and amateur rings.

— I am ready to fight Khelif and answer for all the girls. Any day, any place. Except for August 8, when I will make my debut in the pros. Professional boxing or amateur. It doesn’t matter. I am waiting for an answer. Time has come! — added Amineva.

Boxing competitions at the Olympics are organised by a special unit created by the IOC Executive Board. In June 2023, the IOC Session voted by a majority vote to exclude the IBA from the Olympic movement.

21-year-old Amineva is the champion of the BRICS Games (2024) and the ALBA Bolivarian Games (2023) in the 66 kg weight category.

2020 Olympics champion boxer Batyrgaziev decided to take a break from his career

Olympic champion and former interim WBA super featherweight champion Albert Batyrgaziev decided to take a break from his professional career.

At the beginning of July in Istanbul at the “IBA.PRO 8” tournament, Batyrgaziev lost early to the British James Dickens and lost the IBA.PRO champion and interim WBA champion titles in the second featherweight division. For the 27-year-old Russian, this was the first defeat in his professional career.

— I want to tell you honestly about my plans. Many people ask about their future career. Now I have decided to take a conscious break from my professional career. For me, boxing has been and remains a huge part of my life. Therefore, this choice is now very difficult. My whole sports life has been a race to the top: four Russian championships, an Olympic medal in Tokyo and then turning professional, where I went undefeated.

The last fight on July 2 was a turning point for me. The first defeat made me look at many things differently. I thank Allah for the trials and mercies that helped me become a better person. Since I have always felt a responsibility not only in the ring, but also before society, now is the time to become more active in projects that I have long planned, for example, supporting the development of sports infrastructure in my native regions. This doesn’t mean I’m saying goodbye to the ring. I remain an active boxer. But now all my work is outside of it. I thank everyone for their incredible support along this path: both in moments of triumph and in moments of challenge. She gives strength. I promise this new chapter will be just as honest and purposeful. I’m not saying goodbye, I’m just saying “goodbye,” Batyrgaziev wrote in the Telegram channel.

Batyrgaziev won gold in the weight category up to 57 kg at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. In the professional ring he has 12 wins and one loss.
